Live & Breathe Horses
Kylie Godwin offers unique opportunities for dedicated Australian and International horse lovers to live and breathe horses in the gorgeous Southern Grampians, Victoria, Australia. If you are a capable, self-motivated student of the horse who is passionate about furthering your experience, this would be an ideal way to fastrack your skills. Positions include fully furnished accommodation, meals and utilities (electricity, internet etc) plus hands on tuition while living on-site as part of our family, in exchange for a few hours a day assistance with the everyday running of things plus a small weekly fee. Only one student is selected at a time with stays ranging from 1-6 months.
What can I expect?
Provided as part of your stay:
~ Private guest quarters in our family home (plus use of communal areas)
~ Own queen bedroom, sitting room (TV&DVD) & bathroom
~ Satellite internet connection
~ Access to Horsemanship DVDs and book libraries
~ Meals (join in our mealtimes or self-service)
~ Utilities - local phone calls, electricity and water
(mobile, interstate and overseas calls will be billed to you directly)

Horsemanship experiences:
~ Explore ideas by watching and participating in handling and riding a variety of horses including briefs, commentary and de-briefs
~ Glorious trail riding through the Grampians via dirt roads and tracks
~ Travelling to call-outs, clinics and events
Extend your knowledge in:
~ Horse nutrition
~ Yard and barn management
~ Veterinary care and holistic natural remedies
~ Grooming and hoofcare (barefoot trimming with Martin Godwin)
~ Horse psychology and body language
~ Desired outcomes and appropriate training programs
~ Catching and how to influence the herd
~ Saddlery fitting and selection
~ On-line – 12’, 22’ & 45’ lines and 2 line driving
~ Under-saddle – bitted and non-bitted
~ Riding fluidly with effectiveness and feel
~ Patterns and impulsion programs
~ Trail riding, float loading, jumping, driving stock (sheep)
~ Spooking and ‘problem’ horses
~ Backing (breaking-in) and foundation education
~ Safety, confidence and refinement for both horse and rider
What's the catch?
Approx. 2hrs a day assistance to include:
~ Feeding, watering & rugging horses
~ Cleaning out feeding pens when in use
~ Keeping barn & work areas clean & tidy
~ Odd jobs (helping out with barn & property maintenance)
What is the weekly fee?
~ $150AUD per week all inclusive of the above-mentioned
~ Flights and transfers are not included but we are happy to help you arrange the details
How do I apply?
Interested applicants must have the following:
~ Confidence handling and riding (optional) a range of horses
~ Friendly and relaxed disposition (we are pretty easy going people here)
~ Preparedness to help out with some general household and farm stuff
~ A YEARNING for LEARNING!
