Ride the horse in the direction it’s going.
Werner Erhard

A young horse's education is not just something, it is everything. In teaching them to understand, trust and bond with humans at an early age, the more prepared they are for their first ride. Kylie Godwin prepares young horses for first saddling and riding experiences by firstly developing a language to support a solid on-line foundation that builds confidence and respect. Young horses are handled in such a way that makes sense to them, mentally, emotionally and physically without fear or force. Introducing the saddle is presented without the use of mechanical aids or restraints, enabling horses to express their own readiness for further girthing. Once saddling is accepted, young horses go through all paces and situations that they may experience while ridden. The next step is accepting the rider. Firstly horses learn to carry the rider as a passenger and then to follow the riders suggestions. A soft rope halter is used to teach horses to follow the feel of the reins until they have learnt to balance themselves with the weight of a rider while remaining soft through the body without confusion or resistance. Bits are introduced once horses are ready to accept more refined and sensitive communication. Upon completion of the program, horses will have established safe ground manners, under saddle walk, trot, canter leads, backup, basic laterals, hacking out and float loading. The Harmony Foundation Foundation Program is worked through as the horse becomes ready for the tasks. Emphasis is placed on re-integrating horses with their owners so they are able to 'speak' effectively in the new language their horses have acquired.
